I applaud DSHS for taking this issue on – and the Seattle Times for exposing it in a very well done series of articles. I have been involved in cases where an adult family home caused the death and/or suffering of an elderly person. They are sad cases where the only satisfaction lies in preventing it from it happening again. – Roxanne
DSHS vows to toughen oversight of state’s adult homes

The Times also found that adult-home deaths indicating neglect occur at strikingly higher rates than comparable deaths at nursing homes. For example, pressure-sore deaths in adult homes occur at a rate more than 3.5 times higher, according to an analysis of death certificates from 2003 through 2008.
